|Study Abroad Student’s Log Stardate 61113.20
Finals are approaching like a menacing storm. The time of my return the United States is approaching. My feelings toward my inevitable return home are varied. I do want to see my family and friends, but I have grown very accustomed to living in Australia. I know that I will return and travel to the mysterious and not so ancient land of Melbourne. I hope it will be a positive experience. I always remember, from going to summer camp, that going to a place the second time is never as good as the first. I know that I am not going to the same place exactly, but the country is the same. I wonder about the people that I will meet in my next study abroad experience. Such thoughts are important, but I best by getting back to studying. Current Mood: relaxed

|Study Abroad Student’s Log Stardate 60726.17
I had orientation this morning. It was long and boring. They gave us a packet with all the information we need and then they gave presentations on all the information. I went on a tour of Sydney yesterday and it was enjoyable. After the tour I met tons of students from Germany and we went out to a bar call the three wise monkeys. I good time was had by all except for Thomas who left the bar too late, missed the last bus back to campus and had to take a taxi home. The price for the taxi was $45. I met another roommate today. She’s Megan from Alabama. She seems nice. There are still two empty rooms in our house and I curious as to who will fill them.

|Study Abroad Student’s Log Stardate 60724.15
Well I have been in Australia for several days now. I have finally unpacked all my stuff. My living accommodations are very nice. I have only met one of my roommates. He goes to College in Montana. The TV breakdown is good and bad. The bad news is that there are only five channels. The good news is that it seems that all my favorite shows, the OC, Smallville, etc are played on one the five channels. I have met several European students including 2 from Denmark, 1 from Finland and 5 from Germany. I have learned that while most American study abroad students live on campus, the Europeans all live in or near Sydney. The first night I came here I went to out to a bar in Sydney with my new friends. It was awesome! Last night I met my European friends at downtown Sydney, they were all there looking for apartments, we went for dinner in China town. The only requirement I had for picking a restaurant is that it could not have any animals that were cooked and hanging in the window still looking like they did before they were killed. The only major downfall that I see in Australia is that this country is not one of convenience. It is considerably harder to do things like get an internet connection in my room.

|Cookie Making Fun
So I was making cookies tonight for Mr. Yost. (He's the assistant in the A/V department) Tomorrow, or I guess technically today is his last day. I don't know how people get their cookies shaped right. All mine have pointed lower edges instead of rounded ones. Oh well, I guess it does not really matter. The taste of a cookie is more important than its shape.
This weekend I have a very important fencing meet. It's the divisional, and I have to compete in it to qualify for summer nationals.
I had to do my radio show by myself this week as my co-host is sick. I hate doing talk radio by myself because it is really awkward to talk to myself.

|Never help anyone
So last night I call my sister, who is in college, and try to help her because she is going through a tough time. Simple enough, right.
I give her some advice that she doesn't agree and then she says to me, "What are you some sort of expert?" I'm just trying to be nice and she completely throws it in my face. "Fine" I say. If she doesn't want my advice good for her. So, later that night my moms asks how the conversation with my sister went and I tell her what happened and then she says to me the same thing. I never said I was an expert I was just trying to be helpful and now both my sister and my mom are throwing in my face. So, you think that it's over. Nope a few minutes ago my father comes to talk to me. He heard about what happened from my sister and now he's acted the same way my mom and sister acted.
So, what do we learn from this little scenario, never help anyone because it will just come back to bite you in the butt. Current Mood: aggravated

So I'm up late at night. Typing away. Tra-la-la-la-la-la-la. I wish school would end already. I believe that have experienced enough of the "high school" experience. It's funny. Even though I don't really have to work really really hard in my classes, I still do. I guess my brain has not yet figured out that I'm a second semester senior.

|Beware School in Approaching!!!
There are only eight days till the start of school. The summer went by really fast. The old saying goes: "time flies when your having fun". Yet the part "time flies" is very vague. What common frame of reference do we have for time flying? Or stated differently: How fast does time fly? The constant of acceleration on Earth is 9.8 meter per second. From this can we discern that times flies at an acceleration of 9.8 constant? Therefore, the more time flies, the faster is goes.
If you haven't guessed it by now, I'm pretty bored at this moment, and when I get bored I think about random things Current Mood: bored

The last two nights have been full of excitement.
Two night ago, I saw Pirates of the Caribbean. It was a really good movie. Johnny Depp makes an excellent pirate. Anyway, I went to Linconshire to see the movie and on the way back I passed a bar from which there was a mass exodus. I nearly avoided getting into an accident, with a driver who must have been drunk, because that car turned left into my lane and I had to swerve into the right lane to avoid hitting the car.
Last night was also exciting for a few reasons. First, an old friend, Dana, who moved away about two years ago has come to visit for a week. She is staying with a friend, Allison, who lives in Winnetka. At 7:00pm last night I got a call from my friend Fredy, requesting my presence to meet with him, Dana, and Allison. First we went to a coffee shop and then we went bowling. After which, we went to Blockbuster to rent some videos to watch. We let Dana pick the videos and she went right for the chick-flicks. First she picked The Lizzie Maguire movie. Luckily for me they were out of them. Second she picked What a girl wants, and again luckily they were out of that movie too. We ended up renting Phone booth and Bringing Down the house. After we got the movies we went to Allison's house. (This is the exciting part!) Allison drove Dana and her car would not start. Not only that, but when she finally got to her house, she realized that when she opened her car she put the videos on top of the car and forgot to retrieve them. So we had to go and search for the movies. We found phone booth, luckily the DVD was still intact even thought the box was broken haven been run over by a car. But we could not find to other DVD. So we went to Allison's house and watched phone booth. Unfortunately, by the time we started the movie I had to go home, so I only got to see the first five minutes of phone booth.

|7-Hour Work Day
I worked seven hours today at my Dad's law firm. It was really really boring. But than again, I'm making good money ($9.50/hour). Additionally, because my Dad is a senior partner and was one of the founders of the company, everyone is really nice to me.
Anyway, I found out that I have to read The Alchemist for summer reading. I have about 1.5 weeks to read and it 176 pages, so it's not that bad. I'm actually looking forward to reading this book because after the last three summer reading books I've read this book does not have to be that great for me to enjoy it.
I hope that the summer reading this year will actually be used by my english teacher. The last three years, I've been given a test on the summer reading and than never discussed it again b/c my teachers did not deem the books of value. Current Mood: bored

So, a couple of my friends were setting off fireworks today. One of the fireworks they set off just makes a loud popping sound, like a gun. At this point I thought to myself, "What purpose dos this firework serve?" I mean, it does have a visual sensations, it's only a loud noise which alerts the police to the fact that fireworks are being set off.
On another note, I have developed the ultimate pool strategy. Strategy A: Win the traditional way, Strategy B: My opponent scratches after hitting the eight-ball in, Strategy C: My opponent hits the eight-ball in prematurely. This strategy works like a charm!!! Current Mood: indifferent

|Recovering from sickness
Well, I was sick yesterday and today. I had a sore throat and yesterday I a high temperature. Currently, I'm feeling mostly better. My throat is still sore but it's improving.
So, I've been watching this new Fox TV show, "The OC." It ok I guess, It's no Smallville, but its something OK to watch. Speaking of Smallville, I read on the website that the season premiere is on October 1st. That is exactly 49 days, 21 hours 10 minutes from now. I can't wait.
Also, I saw a preview for the new season of Enterprise, it starts on 9/10/2003 which is 28 day, 21 hours, and 10 minutes from now.
I stayed home from work today b/c I was sick. Tomorrow though, I must return to work. Someone's got to file those files and that person is me. I don't mind my work so much because it not very difficult. The problem is that my work is very very boring. Filing for seven hour would bore anyone so I'm not alone in my boredom. Current Mood: sore

|Fencing Camp Fun
I just got back from Penn. State Fencing Camp. The only problem that I had with it was that we got very little instruction. Most of the time we free fenced, which in itself is still beneficial because you learn a lot by fencing different people.
I declare myself "claw machine master!" At camp they had a claw machine with stuffed animals in it. I won three animals over the course of the week. First I won a tiger doll, then a plush dog, and finally a plush bear. All three of these stuffed animals were given to Cord (As Munchkin would say). The funny things about winning all these stuffed animals is that another fencer spent $10 trying to get the plush dog and I won it in 1 try. He was very upset at this fact. Current Mood: tired

|Back from Space
I'm back from Space Camp. It was awsome. I had such a good time. I was in the pilot track and accoring to the trainer I was the best pilot in Advanced Space Academy that week. My job required flipping like a million switches but It was so much fun. Going back to school tomorrow. It is a sad time. I want more freedom. more fredom. I set my mood to happy but only because of going to Advanced Space Academy, but I'm upset having to go back to school. At camp we had a 6 hour mission. we died three times. two times because someone opened the air lock when it was depressurized. The third death was because we crashed. This is what happens when you let the commander land the orbiter. If I would have landed we have have landed and not crashed, but what can you do. Anyway I really encourage everyone to go to Space Camp if you can. Current Mood: happy

I haven't updated in so long. It seems I always start off my entries like that. OH well, what can you do. If you say update then you're right. I give you prize but I have nothing to give. Except my Simpsons Phrases. I'll fed-ex them to you. Hmmm fed-ex, is that a verb alone or do you need to add an ed to the end? fed-ex or fed-exed? I say you decide. Anyway, I'm excited, wow it the first time I'm not depressed while writing a LJ entry. I'm excited because tomorrow I'm going to advanced Space Academy. It's going to be so much fun. This is my third time going to Space Camp.
I have a list of under appreciated movies: (please add any movies that you feel are under appreciated to this list)
1. Tron (Because it's on of the not bad Disney movie like Rescue Rangers, and Rescue Rangers Down Under)
2. Armed and Dangerous (Old movie with John Candy)
3. Mortal Kombat (With a K, and not a C as you might think)
4. Lost in Space (The new one)
5. Spider-man (Also the new one)
6. Star Trek: Nemesis (It's not bad as you might think)
That's all I can think of now
Well I'll see everyone in a week Current Mood: excited

|Alas!!! The corruption of Fencing Directors has become apparent!
I went to my first meet of the fencing season yesterday. I did pretty OK in the pools. My win-lose ration was 4-2 and I had a +2 indicator. When I got to Direct Elimination, the director had the scoring box set to the wrong weapon. So, I fencing this guy in a 15 touch bout for about 5 minutes and the scoring machine never went off. Finally the director goes, "Opps, I set it epee." After the first 5 minutes I was really tired. During the rest of the bout I could hardly hold up my foil. My opponent got a commanding 12-3 lead over me. Then I said to myself, "This is not acceptable." So I pushed myself with all the strength I had left. I was coming back, the score was 14-13, he was up by 1 point. Then time ran out. I was so annoyed. I was told that my face was completely red. So that's the story of my first meet of the season. Fun Fun Fun I say.

So I got back form Fall convention and it was awesome. Invite was amazing and the moral of the story is that Haganah won first place in all categories except for spontaneous art which we got second. I missed Junior Olympic Qualifiers because I thought I had to be there at 2:45PM, but I was supposed to be there at 8:45AM. OOPS. GTG it's new simpsons is on time Current Mood: satisfied

(cough) LEAH!! (cough)
have been bugging me to post. I've found that not post gives me power. If I could only harness this power, I could rule all!
(drools with excitement)
(wipes off drool with arm sleeve)
I just finished the first day of tryouts. I think it went really well. One of the new coached commented on how he thought that my footwork was very good. SPIDER-MAN is coming out to video in less than two days. It is the greatest movie, not matter what people
(cough) Leah (cough) again (cough) Leah (cough)
may say it an awesome movie. Speaking of movies, I saw the transporter last weekend. I like movies where the hero is very cordinated, exspecially when his kicking the enemies butt. I got to go
